BIOGRAPHIES
Helga Fanderl est née à Ingolstadt, en Allemagne, en 1947. Son désir était de devenir poète. Mais après ses études de langues et littératures germaniques et romanes à Munich, Paris et Francfort-sur-le-Main, elle décide de devenir enseignante sous l’influence de l’École de Francfort. Elle enseigne pendant plusieurs années avant de réaliser que le cinéma est l’art qui lui parle le plus. C’est bel et bien l’art visuel qui lui a donné la chance de développer un travail poétique très personnel et intense. Depuis 1986, elle élabore un corpus d’environ mille courts-métrages qu’elle utilise pour ses projections et aussi pour des expositions. Elle vit à Berlin et à Paris.

Helga Fanderl was born in Ingolstadt, Germany, in 1947. Her desire was to become a poet. But after her studies of German and Roman languages and literatures in Munich, Paris, and Frankfurt a.M., she decided to become a teacher due to the influence of the Frankfurter Schule (School of Frankfurt). She taught for years before finding out that, for her, film was the appropriate medium of artistic expression. It was not language, but visual art that opened the way to a very personal and intense poetic work. Since 1986, she has created a body of work consisting of around a thousand short films that she uses for her screenings and also for exhibitions. She lives in Berlin and Paris.
