Wang Wo (王我) est né dans la province du Hebei et vit actuellement aux États-Unis. Il a étudié le graphisme à l’Académie centrale des arts et du design et obtenu une maîtrise en arts et design à l’université Tsinghua. Il a commencé à réaliser des films en 2004, s’imposant comme l’un des documentaristes indépendants les plus innovants. Parmi ses documentaires expérimentaux, on peut citer Outside (2005), Noise (2007), Zhe Teng: According to China (2010), The Dialogue (2014) et A Filmless Festival (2015). Parallèlement à sa carrière cinématographique, Wang s’est imposé comme artiste et graphiste. Né en 1976 dans le Guangdong, d’origine hakka, Zhu Rikun a étudié la finance à la Guanghua School of Management de l’université de Pékin de 1996 à 2000. En 2001, il a fondé Fanhall Films (Fanhall.com, Fanhall Art Centre), qui se consacre à la production, la distribution et la projection de films indépendants. Il a produit et distribué des œuvres marquantes du cinéma indépendant chinois. En 2003, il a fondé le Festival du film documentaire chinois. De 2006 à 2012, Zhu Rikun a été directeur artistique du Li Xianting Film Fund, continuant à organiser le Festival du film documentaire chinois et le Forum du film indépendant de Pékin, qui ont ensuite fusionné pour former le Festival du film indépendant de Pékin (BIFF). Il a été membre du jury de divers festivals de cinéma, notamment le Festival international du film de Locarno, le Festival international du film de Hong Kong, le Message to Man de Saint-Pétersbourg, le Festival du film numérique de Séoul et le Festival du film asiatique de Rome. Il a également été chercheur invité à l’université Keio au Japon et conservateur invité au Burns Film Center à New York, aux États-Unis. Zimu Zhang est une chercheuse en sciences humaines environnementales qui travaille sur la culture visuelle, le cinéma écologique et les arts écoféministes. Elle est professeure adjointe au département de littérature et d’études culturelles de l’Université pédagogique de Hong Kong. Elle est également ancienne élève du master conjoint DocNomads Erasmus Mundus en réalisation de films documentaires (2012-2014) et du programme Berlinale talents (2016). Ses films ont été présentés dans des festivals internationaux, des événements artistiques et universitaires, tels que le Festival européen des arts médiatiques, Doclisboa, Yunfest, le Festival du film indépendant chinois, etc. Elle a organisé des programmes de projection pour le Festival international du film de Singapour, le Festival du film documentaire et expérimental Arkipel, la Semaine du film de Mongolie intérieure et le Festival international du court métrage de Pékin, etc. Avec des amis, elle a cofondé le Moonshine Screening Project (2017-2019, espace de cogouvernance SJT de Guangzhou) et le Black Tent Theater (2021-, Guangdong Times Museum), qui se concentrent sur l’écologie et la socialité de l’image en mouvement et des activités liées à l’image en mouvement. – Chinese Independent Film Archive
J.P. Sniadecki travaille entre la Chine et les États-Unis en tant que cinéaste, éducateur et anthropologue. Wang Wo (王我) was born in Hebei Province, and is currently living in USA. He studied graphic design at the Central Academy of Arts and Design, and received an MA in Arts and Design from Tsinghua University. He began making films in 2004, establishing himself as one the innovative of the independent documentary filmmakers. His experimental documentaries include Outside (2005), Noise (2007), Zhe Teng: According to China (2010), The Dialogue (2014) and A Filmless Festival (2015). Along with his filmmaking, Wang established himself as an artist and graphic designer. Born in 1976 in Guangdong, of Hakka descent, Zhu Rikun studied finance at Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management from 1996 to 2000. In 2001, he founded Fanhall Films (Fanhall.com, Fanhall Art Centre), focusing on independent film production, distribution, and exhibition. He has produced and distributed milestone works in Chinese independent cinema. In 2003, he founded the China Documentary Film Festival. He has also been a visiting researcher at Keio University in Japan and a visiting curator at the Burns Film Center in New York, USA. Zimu Zhang is an environmental humanities scholar working on visual culture, eco-cinema and ecofeminist arts. She is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, The Education University of Hong Kong. She is also an alumna of DocNomads Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in documentary filmmaking (2012-2014) and Berlinale talents (2016).Her films have been featured in international film festivals, art and academic events, such as European Media Art Festival, Doclisboa, Yunfest, China Independent Film Festival, etc. She has curated screening programs for Singapore International film festival, Arkipel Documentary and Experimental Film Festival, Inner Mongolian Film Week and Beijing International Short Film Festival, etc. Together with friends she co-founded Moonshine Screening Project (2017-2019, Guangzhou SJT co-governance space) and Black Tent Theater (2021-, Guangdong Times Museum), focusing on the ecology and sociality of moving image and moving image activities. – Chinese Independent Film Archive
J.P. Sniadecki works between China and the US as a filmmaker, educator, and anthropologist.
