very abstract and a little bit harsh retrace la dimension politique de la pratique de Lily Jue Sheng à travers une décennie d’expérience dans le contexte des économies cinématographiques instables. Le programme sera accompagné d’une lecture extraite de son prochain recueil, Wage Theft, un mélange de réflexion poétique et de propagande militante qui s’inspire des luttes de classe menées sur divers fronts et autour de diverses fractures.

BIOGRAPHIES
Lily Jue Sheng est un·e artiste-cinéaste et cinéaste travaillant à la croisée de l’image animée, du collage et de la poésie. Ses œuvres ont été projetées ou lues à l’Anthology Film Archives, à la Cinémathèque, à la Fondation Emily Harvey, à Mono No Aware et au Poetry Project. Parmi les festivals de cinéma où ses œuvres ont récemment été présentées, nous pouvons noter le Light Field Film Festival, le Festival international du court-métrage de Pékin, le Winnipeg Underground Film Festival, le Festival international du film de Rotterdam, le True/False Film Fest et le Kabayitos Microcinema. Iel a reçu des prix décernés par Creatives Rebuild NY, la Foundation for Contemporary Arts, la Jerome Foundation, l’Anderson Center at Tower View et divers conseils des arts locaux. Son travail s’inspire de lieux et de paradigmes liés à son identité de colon issu d’une minorité (né·e à Shanghai, en Chine), neuro-atypique et engagé·e dans des luttes sociales sur les terres non cédées des Lenapes où iel a grandi et réside actuellement (New Jersey et New York).

The program will be accompanied by a reading from their forthcoming collection, Wage Theft, a blend of poetic reflection and activist propaganda inspired by class struggles unfolding across various fronts and fault lines.

BIOGRAPHIES
Lily Jue Sheng is an artist-filmmaker and filmmaker working at the intersection of moving image, collage, and poetry. Their work has been screened or read at Anthology Film Archives, the Cinémathèque, the Emily Harvey Foundation, Mono No Aware, and the Poetry Project. Recent film festival presentations include the Light Field Film Festival, Beijing International Short Film Festival, Winnipeg Underground Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, True/False Film Fest, and Kabayitos Microcinema. They have received awards from Creatives Rebuild NY, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, the Jerome Foundation, the Anderson Center at Tower View, and various local arts councils. Their work draws on places and paradigms connected to their identity as a settler from a minority background (born in Shanghai, China), neurodivergent, and engaged in social struggles on the unceded lands of the Lenape where they grew up and currently reside (New Jersey and New York).
