Oscar winner Melissa Leo aptly portrays Francine, a woman struggling to find her place in a small, sombre lakeside town after serving a prison sentence. She works several precarious jobs with animals, distancing herself from other humans and maintaining some form of intimacy with her growing horde of animals.

Francine is a voyeuristic, elliptical, almost entirely silent portrait of a marginalized woman and her feverish first steps into an unknown world.
