This summer, Paul has embarked on reviewing and abstracting his entire collection of digitized VHS tapes, making and saving countless small cuts that for a variety of reasons inspire an immediate emotional or intellectual response. Paul expects the many hours of resulting collage material to become the starting point for the creation of a music-driven feature length video film.

Paul will show raw cuts from the archive, and try to give insight in the thought processes that underly his artistic decisions.

Paul de Jong’s MOF archive is home to a wealth of assorted media and ephemera. This includes some 5,000+ VHS, 1,500 LP’s, 5,000 cassette tapes, as well as collected photography, publications, and film. The subject matter is sprawling, favoring commercial and amateur production and analog forms. Categories of the collection include: televangelism, self-help, hunting, meditation, technical/instructional, medical and much more.

“I carefully select the samples according to their immediate personal appeal as well as their more generic characteristics. The collection thus has grown into a kind of account of recorded mankind that is personally introspective and expresses some level of human universality at the same time. It can be seen as a tremendous resource, an intellectual and emotional theme park, a work of raw art, ever growing, ever expanding.” – Paul de Jong
