From Cloud to Cloud

Une série de courts métrages épistolaires expérimentaux entre OK Pedersen et Mackenzie Reid Rostad réalisés entre 2020-2021. S’écrivant d’un bout à l’autre de l’Atlantique, les cinéastes explorent leur relation individuelle avec la technologie, les médias, la migration, l’avenir et le rêve collectif. Le résultat de leur échange consiste en deux longs métrages, Kingdom, Clouds, Sirens, Pirates and Dream Sheets et Cloud Gate 2.

Un long métrage épistolaire dédié aux résidents du Liebig 34, une coopérative de logement anarcho-féministe et squat de Berlin qui a été expulsée peu après la tentative de déménagement du réalisateur dans la ville. En faisant appel à du found footage et à des images filmées par le cinéaste, le film explore les concepts de location, de refuge et de résistance à Berlin et au-delà.

OK Pedersen

OK Pedersen est une Américaine d’origine moyen-orientale qui a grandi dans le Midwest. Elle vit et travaille à Tiohtià:ke/Montréal, et elle observe le monde à travers les pouvoirs kaléidoscopiques du langage––avec son pendule de puissance et d’ineptie. En tant que créatrice d’images, son travail tourne autour du mythe moderne, des médias grand public et de l’architecture de la mémoire, comme une façon d’aborder la nature cyclique de l’existence. Elle a reçu le Lazarus Family Graduate Award in Photography en 2020 et le Jeune Tete d’Affiche de Dazibao en 2022.

Mackenzie Reid Rostad

Mackenzie Reid Rostad est un réalisateur canadien de documentaires dont la pratique artistique porte sur l’exploration de l’amour et du concret dans une optique participative et liée aux sites spécifiques. Ses diffusions les plus récentes incluent : VIVO Media Arts Centre, Vancouver, Canada (2019); RIDM, Montréal, Canada (2020); Visions du Réel, Nyon, Suisse (2020); et Atlanta Film Festival, Atlanta, États-Unis (2021).

From Cloud to Cloud

A series of short experimental correspondences between OK Pedersen and Mackenzie Ried Rostad during the years 2020-2021. Writing to each other from across the Atlantic, the filmmakers explore their individual relationships with technology, media, migration, the future, and collective dreaming. Their exchange culminated in two feature films, Kingdom, Clouds, Sirens, Pirates, and Dream Sheets and Cloud Gate 2.

An extended correspondence film dedicated to the residents of Liebig 34, an anarcho-feminist housing co-operative and squat in Berlin that was evicted shortly after the filmmaker’s attempted move to the city. Comprising both found and filmed images, the film explores concepts of rent, refuge and resistance in Berlin and beyond.

BIOGRAPHY

OK Pedersen

OK Pedersen is a first generation Middle Eastern-American from the Midwestern United States, now living and working in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal. She witnesses the world through the kaleidoscopic powers of language––its pendulum of potency and ineptitude. As an image maker, her work circles around modern myth, mainstream media, and the architecture of memory, as a way to address the cyclical nature of existence. She is the 2022 recipient of Dazibao’s Jeune tête d’affiche award, and she completed her MFA at Concordia University in 2022.

Mackenzie Reid Rostad

Mackenzie Reid Rostad is a Canadian documentary filmmaker with a practice of participatory and site-specific explorations of love and concrete. Recent exhibitions include; VIVO Media Arts Centre, Vancouver, Canada (2019); RIDM, Montréal, Canada (2020); Visions du Réel, Nyon, Switzerland (2020); and Atlanta Film Festival, Atlanta, USA (2021).
